For example, Astral Travel requires you to reveal a token after playing it, and if it is a Skull, Cultist, Tablet, Elder Thing, or Autofail symbol, something bad happens to you. Resolve any effects as you normally would, and the bless or curse token is not removed. What if I reveal a bless token or a curse token outside of a skill test? In either case, any bless and curse tokens that were resolved are then removed from the chaos bag after being resolved during a skill test. On the other hand, if a curse token is drawn, you immediately get -2 skill value on your test and, just like with bless, must then draw and resolve an additional token. During a skill test, if a bless token is drawn, you immediately get +2 skill value on your test and must then draw and resolve an additional token. Once an effect in the game causes a bless or curse token to be added to the bag, that token can be drawn from the chaos bag like any other token. Bless is on the left and curse is on the right. Note that when player cards interact with a bless and curse token, they use the symbol represented on the token, so it is best to get familiar with what the symbol looks like. The below image shows what they look like. These tokens can be added to or removed from the chaos bag itself, affecting the contents of the chaos bag in a new way. There are 10 bless tokens and 10 curse tokens. The Innsmouth Legacy comes with a punchboard of new tokens. I also previously said the designers confirmed bless and curse will never return, and this was false. I added some additional detail to the FAQ based on feedback. This is simply working off of what we do know so far.ĪUTHOR’S NOTE 2: Last updated Sept. 31st, so we have not seen all the possible information for Bless and Curse. However, if you are a veteran and want to brush up on some information on Bless and Curse before Innsmouth launches in early October, then welcome! Either way, I hope that this article will provide you all the information you need to understand the enigmatic bless and curse tokens.ĪUTHOR’S NOTE: Keep in mind that this article is written Aug. My main goal is to explain bless and curse in as much detail as possible to newer players, because the implications of this new mechanic are not necessarily as cut and dry as they may look at first glance. Innsmouth is going to be a bit of an unusual cycle to come in on because, as I will explain, it is very unique. With the unusually long gap (due to the pandemic) between this cycle releasing and the previous cycle ending, I expect that more players than usual are going to be experiencing the Innsmouth Legacy as their first cycle. For The Innsmouth Legacy, the major new mechanic for player cards being added is bless and curse tokens. For example, in The Dunwich Legacy, exile cards made their debut, while in The Forgotten Age, the game introduced seal cards for Mystics. I created another version of this deck using the original back.Every new cycle, Arkham Horror likes to change the game up by adding new mechanics. Were you familiar with his work previously? So we’re so lucky to have such a great cast. So you can write witty banter, but then cast people who have no chemistry whatsoever and it’s like. Again, chemistry is something you absolutely cannot write into scripts. And what’s great about Nikesh is that he takes the scripts that were written and turns it into something else. I think it’s become so clear when you’re watching a romantic-comedy where it feels like you can see the writer and characters aren’t able to bring their own sort of charm to the character. So many of the rom-coms I enjoy are all about not only very witty banter, but convincing dialogue as well. Someone asked the other day, “Is it improv?” And to be honest, no, we’ve worked so hard on the script to be so tightly packed. I think we’re also obsessed with detail in the show, even down to the energy of that back and forth between Tom and Jessie, it’s so specific. I think we always looked at each series as more of a film. We’re three writers who kind of grew up as writers in New Zealand. Dialogue is such a huge thing for us writing it. I honestly think we spend so much time on dialogue. Part of that is your acting partner, but as a writer what do you think makes a good romantic-comedy script? You do such a great job with the flirty banter scenes those moments that really make or break a romantic-comedy. I think it was like living vicariously through these characters in a way. No one was able to go out and everyone was just missing human contact. To be able to make something that is just like this character you know you enjoy and you want to be with for six episodes I think it’s so much fun to be able to make that because it’s such a hectic time. I think because I’m a Pisces, and that says a lot about it. I have such a propensity for watching rom-coms or romance films. kind of obsessed with romance and love in a weird, almost academic way. I’m just a fan of them and I just love any stories about love. I honestly think I had such an affinity, a borderline obsession with them as a teenager because I think there’s something to be said for pieces of work that provide comfort for people. What do you love about romantic comedies? This morning I was saying so many men have done that for so many years in film and television and so I think, why not? Why not? It’s actually almost cheeky and illegal to be like, “Yeah, so just writing a rom-com where I get to flirt with a handsome dude.” It’s outrageous, actually. Yeah, I mean, what is that? It’s total wish fulfillment. I love that what you wrote for yourself was this very fun fantasy about a movie star falling in love with you. If you want to do something right, do it yourself. I’m such a fan of it and I guess maybe resented the fact that I was never really cast in one, so I’d wrote it myself. You know when you’re that desperate, you’re like, “Oh, you know, I’ll just write a rom-com with me in it!” But I’ve always had a love of that genre. There were lots of “No thank you’s,” and finally one of the channels, BBC, “One more idea.” And that was “Starstruck.” It was nice because in retrospect all the other ideas I would have been annoyed if I had to write. After that, I got the opportunity to go to channels in the UK and pitch ideas for television projects. Rose Matafeo: I just did a show “Horndog” which was fun. IndieWire: What was the original idea for the show? This interview has been condensed and edited for clarity. Matafeo spoke to IndieWire on the phone about what else to expect from the second season, as well as how one scripts the kind of swoon-y romantic moments that will have fans hitting replay. David Zaslav, Defender of the Cable Bundle, Is Ready to Bundle Max with Other Streamers A good amount of scenarios to keep one entertained. Pros: - Action packed with lots of things to do. It isn't perfect, and indeed is missing some staple features of most tactical turn based games. So although it is a bit oddly designed in places, Hard west is a game it is easy to recommend to anyone who likes wild west games. The writing is good though and the game looks and sounds appropriately Wild West. But then again, since you're playing isolated scenarios this isn't really needed I suppose. What I do miss a bit is a leveling process. During your travels you gather cards, which you can combine in your inventory for bonuses. Some are shops, some are battles and some are quest related locations. The world maps are loaded with locations of various kinds. There is no need for inventory management during them, and you will be focused on either killing enemies or using and looting items on the map. There is no direct looting either, so the battles are just battles. But because it is not one large campaign, the RPG part of the game suffers a bit. As you would expect, the combat is cover-based and there is a large variety of abilities and weapons for you to use. And the game play is pretty good I thought. But you also get to play a mad scientistst and other peculiar people. You get to play settlers trying to protect their families from bandits and other staple western scenarios. But instead of that meticulous tactical western game, Hard West is a less demanding collection of unconnected wild west scenarios, all of them appropriately Oregon Trail-y dark and dismal. But instead of that meticulous tactical western game, Hard West is I was hoping for something a bit more like the old board game, Gunslinger. I was hoping for something a bit more like the old board game, Gunslinger. When ghosting occurs, it looks like the colors or text are blurring together whenever there's quick movement on the screen. If your monitor has a higher response time, you'll notice more ghosting. The timing is measured in milliseconds, with lower being better. The timing of this is usually determined by going back and forth between white and black. Response time is the time it takes a display to change from one color to another. A lower response time can improve the smoothness and clarity of text while scrolling through web pages or documents. Response time also determines how well a monitor can handle motion - the lower the response time, the better. Refresh rates of 75 Hz and higher will reduce motion blur and make animations smoother in other cases. For example, a refresh rate of 60 Hz means that the screen will redraw 60 times each second.Ī good refresh rate is around 120 Hz to 165 Hz or above for all use cases, but 60 Hz will be good enough when using only for your security camera feed. Refresh rate is measured in hertz (Hz), which is defined as one cycle per second. Refresh rate is the number of times a display can redraw the screen. Monitors can have a refresh rate ranging from 60 to 360 Hz. With that said, you won't notice a difference in refresh rates while there's no motion on the screen. Scrolling through your web pages will look a lot more smooth. If you're using your monitor for other uses also, then it can improve the overall experience. If you're using your monitor only for security cameras, refresh rates won't matter that much. Refresh rates determine how well a monitor can handle motion - the higher the refresh rate, the better.
Taylor: I was nervous when I got the last script. The director of the episode pointed it out to me, and I started saying, "Oh, oh, oh" over and over again because I couldn't believe it. In fact, we did a table read of the last script. It's very much a roller coaster, for sure.Įdwards: It was shocking for me. Lots of noises that I made, which then made my partner constantly be like, "What's going on?" I am reading the final script and sobbing and gasping. “There could be a spooky haunting!” Karkanis suggests.Kaur: Very emotional. Her character lives on through Cal, through Olive, through baby Eden, and of course through Ben as he tries to carry on without her.” And yes, the door is open to possibly see her again. This was part of our story, and her significance in Manifest remains as strong as ever. What the creator wants to make sure fans know is that they “did not make this decision lightly,” he says. And it’s why I’m sure people are tearing their hair out all over the world right now having seen what happened to Grace in that Season 3 finale. She, in that moment, and in so many moments, perfectly captured the power and the pain of every mother, every wife, every woman, and her ability to channel that emotional state again and again and again is why the audience is so deeply in love with Grace as a character and with Athena as an actress. Rake agrees, adding, “Athena basically broke her arm and still managed to give that unbelievably powerful performance. “It made the audience just lock in and realize the significance of them being in a way and how important those characters were to her character.” “That moment was so important because it made the audience realize that we can love these characters through her because of her love running towards us and her emotions that were coming out towards those characters,” Dallas says. That was also true of the family’s reunion in the pilot when Ben and Cal returned after 828 disappeared for five and a half years. Athena just knows where the heart and soul of a scene lies,” Rake adds, pointing to her performance in that scene, the last one they shot for the season, and remembering looking at the director and saying, “What Athena is giving us right now is exactly what this moment wants to be.” “I don’t know that I’ve ever worked with a more intuitive actor. “Also it would have been wrong to play that moment as, ‘Oh my God, Cal, look at you, you’re so tall now!’” “A mother knows her child,” Karkanis says. If you thought Grace didn’t look as shocked as she should have been by the new Cal, that was by design. The sacrifice he made in giving up those years is one “he’s made for everyone in the world,” not just his family and the other passengers.īut one person who didn’t really need an explanation was his mother. “It’s for Ben and the others to figure out where he’s been, why he was there, what happened there,” Rake says. Speaking of the inexplicable, there’s the matter of where Cal was after he disappeared near the end of Season 3 before returning, having aged. “A Season 4 of Manifest for Ben is absolutely centered around processing, digesting, coming to emotional terms with such an unspeakable loss, and then trying to find a way to seek vengeance, to kind of justify the act in terms of finding some meaning out of it. It’s “the most fundamental, life-altering, devastating thing that could happen to ,” the creator says. We have to keep it to ourselves and let them be shocked when they turn the page.”īen still has to find out about Grace’s death at the end of the finale, he only suspects something has happened due to a Calling. He left it up to Karkanis, who said, “No, absolutely. The rest of the cast was as well, and that’s due to Karkanis. “When Athena and I talked about it, we said to each other, ‘Should we tell the other actors?’” Rake recalls. If you were shocked by what happened to Grace, you weren’t the only ones. Watch the video above as they discuss that death, what’s next, and why Cal aged, then read on for more scoop if the series is renewed for a fourth season. At least half ended on such major cliffhangers that it’s unbelievable fans won’t find out what’s next.Īfter that, TV Insider had to get answers and turned to creator Jeff Rake, Josh Dallas (who plays Ben Stone), and Karkanis.
